Gochisousan Eps 1-6

intro

Note: Do not watch Gochisousan on an empty stomach or if you’re on a diet, unless you enjoy torturing yourself. I watched this late at night after I had already eaten and now, six episodes later, I have “omu rice” tattooed on my brain. Where the hell am I going to find Japanese omelette rice at 3 bloody a.m. in the morning? *stomach groooooooooowls*  (more…)

And we have a sequel … sort of

So some of you may already have heard the news but for the benefit of those who haven’t, it looks like Itazura na Kiss ~ Love in Tokyo will be getting a sequel after all.

However before you hit the “spazz” button, there are two important details that everyone should take note of:

  1. The sequel will be helmed by a different production team (yes, that’s right. Director Nagata Koto, producer Moriya Takeshi and scriptwriter Miura Uiko will not have anything to do with it. Q___Q)
  2. The cast, according to Nagata, has not been confirmed yet. (I can just about imagine the shit storm that’s going to go down on Weibo and Baidu if they change the leads. I don’t think they’ll be so dumb as to swap out FuruYuki, unless they want to alienate his one million+ fans. But it’s really Honoka who I want to see again.)

Vengeance is mine, and Imma make those bastards pay: Hanzawa Naoki Eps 1-8

screw

Oooh…kinky

If you’ve been following the J-ent scene recently, you might have heard of Hanzawa Naoki, this summer’s most talked-about drama (in Japan, at least. The international blogosphere is another matter altogether.) Ratings are at an all-time high, with the last two episodes (i.e. eps 7 and 8) recording numbers in the 30th percentile. Not since the golden days of the KimuTaku era has a J-drama performed this well (even last year’s surprise hit, Kaseifu no Mita, didn’t surpass the 30 percent mark till the last episode.) So widespread is its popularity in the country that even the Wall Street Journal has written about it. When was the last time they wrote about a KimuTaku drama?

Naturally, I had to find out what all the fuss was about, especially given that this is a drama about fraud and corruption, not exactly topics to set most pulses racing. (more…)

Don’t do this to me, Show. I don’t have time for a taiga!!

“My wife is a woman who shoots guns. The wife that I love is a gallant woman who walks in front of her husband. That I was Yae-san’s husband is my life’s proudest achievement…. You must not come here again. You are a woman who is living in the new era. You must go.” ~ Kawasaki Shounosuke

Someone please hand me a bucket before my heart makes a mess all over the place.

Why I am even reading the recaps of a drama that I know I simply don’t have the time to watch is beyond me but the parting scene between Yae and her ex-husband is thisclose to making me sign away whatever I have left of a social life. And that’s not to mention the apparently equally heart-tugging story between Saitou Hajime and his wife, Tokio.

What the hell. *Puts Yae no Sakura on To Watch list* Let’s hope I get snowed in this winter so I can marathon the whole damn thing at one go. In the meantime, I think I’m going to have to read up on my Aizu history first.

Once More with Feeling: Saying Goodbye to Itazura na Kiss ~ Love in Tokyo

She’s a dreamer with her head in the clouds. He’s an apathetic genius living his life on autopilot. They’re the last two people you’d ever expect to fall in love with each other…

daydreamnerdstupid

But once in a while, something unexpected happens to bring two very different individuals together and open their eyes to possibilities that they never considered before.

Their journey together is far from easy though (in part because one of them is an emotional retard). As they navigate the minefields of the heart, they experience for the first time, the highs and lows of falling in love.

And so, after years of fervent prayer and wishing upon falling stars…

after much resistance and denial…

I hope your words taste good because you are going to be eating a lot of them, Naoki

and a few awkward confessions…

And for all of us watching at home, after months of spazzing and flailing, and two weeks of wishing we could laser beam some sense into Naoki, it has finally come to this.
