Hana Kimi 2011

2011 Roundup Part 1: To All the Boys I’ve Loved This Year

So it’s that time of the year again to cast a retrospective eye on the events of the last 12 months. Kicking off the whole year-in-review process here at Midnight Express is my little tribute to the boys who contributed to many late nights and, uh, lost hours. Yeah, let’s just leave it as that.

But before we begin, a little song:

To All the Boys I’ve Loved This Year

To all the boys I’ve loved this year
Whose vids now clog my computer
Naked Shirtless hunks and high school hosts
I dedicate this post
To all the boys I’ve loved this year

To all the boys I stalked like mad
On Tumblr and the Internet
God, where did my time go?
I need a life I know
I swear I was never this shallow.

The year is coming to an end
‘tis now time to say goodbye
‘Cos other pretty boys are coming round the bend
And I’ve only 24 hours in a day…

To all the boys who shared my life
Who now are someone else’s vice
I’m glad you came along
It saddens me to say so long
To all the boys I’ve loved this year

(Adapted from To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before, by Julio Iglesias and Willie Nelson)

This was written in a hormonally charged fog so if you’re hoping to glean some intelligent insight into the dramas of the past year, I’m afraid I’ll have to refer you to Dramabeans. Otherwise, welcome! *mild spoilers here and there*

Oh Kayashima…

[via cookiesmon]

Just one of the many lovely Kayashima moments in this drama.

When I started watching this remake, I wasn’t really looking out for Kayashima because he was never one of my favourite characters in the manga. It wasn’t that I disliked him or anything but with so many eccentric and larger-than-life characters *coughOscarcough* my attention was always focused on someone else.

But he’s really grown on me in this drama and one of the things I like about Tomo’s portrayal is the way he’s captured the character’s quiet presence. He may not say much but you’re always aware of him, and you can count on him to be the voice of reason in a sea of impulsive schoolboys. And his scenes with Nakatsu are always a highlight because they make such a sweet odd couple, with his level-headed and slightly detached pragmatism balancing out his room mate’s outgoing exuberance.

Not to mention, I love his deadpan expressions and sad little smiles. If I were in Ohsaka Gakuen, I’d definitely want to be his friend.

When Oscar Met Hibari: Hana Kimi 2011 Ep. 7

Remember when I said I couldn’t wait to see the showdown between Hibari and Oscar?

In episode 7, my wish came true and it was everything I wanted it to be. Show, is it possible for me to love you more than I do now?

This is what happens in the manga:

If I’m out of a job, I’ll know who to blame

Dear Show,

This has got to stop. Seriously, quit making me check out everybody’s drama and movie backlists. At first, it was just Confessions that was in my queue and then it grew to include Tumbling and Untouchable (ETA: and Shinsengumi Peace Maker). Last time I checked, there were only 24 hours in a day. My boss is also thisclose to never speaking to me ever again. Ergo, please stop trying to sneak Kamen Rider Kabuto and Kamen Rider W on to my list. And you can forget about Gokusen 3. Nothing will make me download that drama. Not even Miura Shohei. I mean it. Stop tempting me, dammit!

Okay, it’s official

Hana Kimi 2011 status: Yellow

The world can worship at the altar of Lee Min-ho and Eric. I am casting my lot with the boys (and lone female) of Ohsaka Gakuen 2.0. God knows they need all the love they can get.

Sunday can’t come fast enough.

Hell, the subs can’t come fast enough. Though having said that, props to Ebi-subs for doing such a fantastic job!

I have deadlines spilling out of my ears but like an addict, I can’t tear myself away from Tumblr.

Haters, you know what to do.
